After buying an overseas server, many customers want to know whether it can use Netflix, Disney+, YouTube Premium, TikTok and ChatGPT. This guide covers two ways to run a streaming unlock test: manual curl checks of each site's region response, and the open-source RegionRestrictionCheck script. It also explains IPv4 vs IPv6 results and what to do if a service is blocked. Commands work on Debian/Ubuntu and CentOS/Rocky/AlmaLinux.
Streaming and AI services decide availability based on the country of your IP, so first check which country your server's outgoing address is mapped to:
# Install curl
apt install -y curl # Debian/Ubuntu
yum install -y curl # CentOS/Rocky/AlmaLinux
# Confirm the outgoing IP and country (test IPv4 and IPv6 separately)
curl -4 -s ipinfo.io
curl -6 -s ipinfo.io
These commands only read status codes, redirects or region fields returned by each site. Sites change their pages from time to time, so treat the output as a quick indication:
# Netflix: request a licensed title page (70143836) and check the status code
curl -4 -s -o /dev/null -w "%{http_code}\n" https://www.netflix.com/title/70143836
# YouTube Premium: detected region, and whether it says not available
curl -4 -s -H "Accept-Language: en" https://www.youtube.com/premium | grep -oE '"INNERTUBE_CONTEXT_GL" *: *"[A-Z]+"' | head -1
curl -4 -s -H "Accept-Language: en" https://www.youtube.com/premium | grep -c "Premium is not available in your country"
# Disney+: check where the home page redirects
curl -4 -s -o /dev/null -w "%{http_code} %{redirect_url}\n" https://www.disneyplus.com/
# TikTok: region code detected in the page
curl -4 -s -A "Mozilla/5.0" https://www.tiktok.com/ | grep -oE '"region":"[A-Z]+"' | head -1
# ChatGPT: country seen by Cloudflare (loc field)
curl -4 -s https://chatgpt.com/cdn-cgi/trace | grep -E '^(ip|loc)='
How to read it: for Netflix, 200 usually means the title is available in your region, 404 that it is not in the local catalogue, and 403 that the IP may be flagged as a proxy. The YouTube code is the country Premium detects. A Disney+ redirect containing "unavailable" usually means the region is unsupported. For ChatGPT, the loc value should be on OpenAI's list of supported countries. Replace -4 with -6 to test IPv6.
RegionRestrictionCheck is a community-maintained, third-party open-source script that tests dozens of streaming and AI services in one run. Because it runs as root, download it and read it before executing:
# Option 1: download, read, then run (recommended)
curl -L -s check.unlock.media -o check.sh
less check.sh
bash check.sh
# Option 2: run directly
bash <(curl -L -s check.unlock.media)
# Test IPv4 only or IPv6 only
bash check.sh -M 4
bash check.sh -M 6
The script is not IMIDC software and may change at any time; review it and use it at your own discretion.
IPv4 and IPv6 are separate addresses, so you can see "IPv4 works, IPv6 is blocked". Many systems prefer IPv6 by default, which makes the browser fail. If IPv4 is fine, make the system prefer IPv4:
# Prefer IPv4 for outgoing connections (Debian/Ubuntu/CentOS/Rocky/AlmaLinux)
echo "precedence ::ffff:0:0/96 100" >> /etc/gai.conf
# Verify: the default outgoing address should now be IPv4
curl -s ipinfo.io/ip
First rule out local causes: check DNS, make sure no global proxy is active, and test again at a different time. If the platform is restricting the IP itself, open a ticket and ask for another native or residential IP — replacing or adding IPs is a paid service. If unlocking a specific service is essential for your business, contact us before ordering to confirm the configuration or request a test. See also "How to check whether an IP is native".
Check which address (IPv4 or IPv6) the browser or app actually uses, then clear cache and cookies. Some services also check the account's sign-up and payment country.
Platforms update their IP databases and risk rules continuously, so results change over time. Test periodically and keep usage patterns normal.
Open the sites in a browser on the server, or run similar commands in PowerShell with curl.exe.
If you still need help, open a support ticket with a screenshot of the results and your server IP, and the IMIDC 24/7 team will assist.
